  • Give it 100% Competition

    27th March 2014

    As you may be aware, Miss Wilson is running a ‘Give it 100%’ competition for attendance in March. The children who come to school every day are in with a chance of winning some brilliant prizes. All names will be added to a draw and prizes will be handed out.

    So far, 162 children have achieved 100% attendance this month. WELL DONE and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

  • Guiness World Record Attempt

    One of the fun methods we use in school, to warm up the children’s hands for writing is the Dough Disco. This is where we dance to music using play dough, the children may have mentioned it! We took part in a Dough Disco world record attempt on Monday 3rd March 2014, we have submitted our evidence. We will let you know as soon as we hear if our World Record Attempt was successful!!!

    Foundation Fund Friday 2013

    A big thank you to everyone who donated to Foundation Fund Friday.  We raised a fantastic £215!

    Foundation Fund Friday was a group wide fundraising day in aid of the School Partnership Trust Foundation Fund, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The fund gives pupils and students of SPTA academies the opportunity to take part in activities that may not normally be open to them.

  • Stunning Victory for our Football Team!

    Tonight was our first match in quite some time so we were really looking forward to our match against Beeston St Francis Primary.

    We are thrilled at the final score of 16 - 1

    Mr  Crowther was particularly pleased at the teamwork shown by all the children and effort they put in.

    Well done everyone and thank you to those who came along to support the team.

    Today we fundraised in style for this year's Comic Relief Red Nose Day

    Children and staff enjoyed dressing up as either their favourite book character to celebrate the end of book week, or just dressed up for the fun of it!!

    Through the sale of red noses and the non uniform day, we raised the fantastic total of £330   (and still counting!)


    A big well done to everyone who donated, dressed up and did something funny for money.

    On Thursday 14th March we once again took part in the South Leeds Community Alliance Big Community Clean Up - 'Love Beeston, Clean Beeston' Campaign.  The 'clean up hour' covered the streets on Harlech Road, Woodview Road, Harlech Avenue and the area around around Park View Primary Academy.

    Mrs Overfield from LCC Catering Agency has been working with our academy to create more interesting dishes for our school dinner menu. 

    At the beginning of March, members from our School Council had a very successful and enjoyable time tasting some of the dishes that will feature in the Summer menu.  They were given a sheet to 'score' the foods by putting a sticker next to the description - love it, like it, not sure, dislike it, hate it!   • Love Beeston, Clean Beeston

    On Thursday, 28th February, children and staff helped in the South Leeds Community Alliance Big Community Clean Up, part of the 'Love Beeston, Clean Beeston' Campaign.

    We met up with other volunteers from the community including members from Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Police at the Hamara Centre to clean up the area around Maud Avenue and around our school.

    Over the coming months, regular litter-picks will be held in a different streets every week, with residents urged to get involved.  At the end,

    I'm sure you'll agree that this year our children excelled themselves in the Key Stage 2 performance of Cinderella & Rockerfella where we uncovered some hidden talents!!

    A big thank you to everyone involved, including the performers, singers, narrators and scenery, costume and props makers.

    A special thank you to all the staff, especially Mr deVeuve for his acting and musical direction.

  • Hunslet Hawks New Anthem

    On Friday 13th December our year 5 children became recording stars!

    Our Academy along with Windmill Primary School joined other students from The South Leeds Academy joined Hawks players and staff, Leeds Rhinos staff, Ronnie the Rhino and Harry the Hawk at The South Leeds Academy to record a new anthem for Hunslet Hawks Rugby League Football Club to help give them inspiration!

  • New Library Opening

    The week started with a whole school assembly on Monday.

    On Tuesday, Kirsty Fenn from the School Library Service visited to introduce the children to the library and teach them about library skills.  All the children were given a new book bag so they can take care of all the new books.

    Wednesday 24th October saw the children's author Penny Dolan visit to do workshops on reading and writing with every class.  What an enjoyable time all our children had!

    Olympic Torch comes to South Leeds

    Finally …… the day the Olympic Torch arrives in South Leeds, bringing the games closer.

    Some of our children had a very early start. They left school at 6.15am to walk up to the John Charles Stadium for Sport, so we could get good seats.

    Union Flags at the ready and the sun is starting to shine.

    What we had all been waiting for - the arrival and 'kissing' of the Olympic torches.

    There was a great atmosphere, with entertainment for the early risers, provided by DAZL dance company.
